We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of four ESVCP members who were recognised with awards at the recent ESVP–ECVCP–ESVCP–ECVCP Congress in Nantes, France.

The Congress brought together members of the veterinary clinical pathology community to share the latest research, clinical experiences and scientific developments. Among the highlights was the recognition of four ESVCP members for their outstanding research and clinical case presentations.

Dr Emma Sjödin

2026 ESVCP Research Grant

Dr Emma Sjödin received the 2026 ESVCP Research Grant for research focusing on platelets and immunological profiles in dogs with immune-mediated thrombocytopenia.

The grant will support research aimed at furthering our understanding of this important immune-mediated disease in dogs.

Dr Virginia Bettoni

Best Research Poster

Dr Virginia Bettoni was awarded Best Research Poster for her study:

“Can the erythrocyte sedimentation rate predict the presence of electrophoretic abnormalities in dogs?”

Her research investigates the potential relationship between erythrocyte sedimentation rate and electrophoretic abnormalities in canine patients.

Dr Carola Curcio

Best Research Oral Presentation

Dr Carola Curcio received the award for Best Research Oral Presentation for:

“Long-term biological variation biochemistry results in a cohort of Labrador Retrievers, Beagles and Norfolk Terriers.”

The study investigates long-term biological variation in biochemical results across three different dog breeds, contributing to our understanding of laboratory result interpretation in veterinary medicine.

Dr Javier Hernández Atona

Best Clinical Pathology Mystery Case Presentation

Dr Javier Hernández Atona received the award for Best Clinical Pathology Mystery Case Presentation for:

“Thoracic mass in a dog.”

The presentation highlighted the diagnostic challenges involved in investigating a thoracic mass and demonstrated the important contribution of clinical pathology to complex clinical cases.
